He woke up from a good night’s sleep and went out into the early morning. He looked up to the stars and thanked his heavenly father for all He had done for him.
It was Father’s Day, and his Dad kept sneaking into his thoughts. He had been gone for many years. He wanted to tell him something that had been in his heart and mind for a long time. He started a fire in the backyard fire pit and sat down.
You know, Dad, I know my heavenly father loves me, but I don’t remember you ever telling me you loved me. I don’t remember you ever hugging me.
I’m sorry, but it’s hard for me to tell you I love you when I have never heard or felt it from you. I realize now that your father never did that with you, and his father never did that with him. So, you didn’t know how. I wish it had been different, but it wasn’t. Excuse me for a minute, smoke must have got in my eyes.
My Grandpa was busy with all the chores around the farm. I never felt loved by him either. When I was old enough, he taught me how to do all the chores. He never said thanks or I love you. I got a pat once in a while. That’s something I never got from you. I know you were busy.
Were you proud of me when I joined the military, Dad? I wrote you, but I didn’t get any letters back. I guess you never had time. Excuse me, this smoke is getting to me. Got to wipe my eyes again.
I made mistakes with my kids. For that, I am deeply sorry. God forgave me, they forgave me, and I forgive you, Dad. The chain is broken. My wife and I tell our kids and grandkids we love them. We hug them. We spent time with them. That’s important in today’s world. Our kids need to grow up knowing that they are loved by their heavenly Father and their Dad. I’m glad we had this talk, Dad. I’ve been needing to do this for a long time.We need to have a talk with our heavenly Father every day.
Some of you reading this, like me, need to make a moment to have a talk with Dad.
